Charity's boost after winning Golden Apple award
A Cumbrian charity working across a large swathe of the county has received a welcome boost after scooping a prestigious Golden Apple Award.
The North Allerdale Development Trust (NADT) won the community involvement award at last October's ceremony.
It was in recognition of the success and impact of its two year wartime history project Footprints of our Fathers not only on those taking part, but local people.
Researched and developed by teenagers and young people, it has also become a legacy of local tales revealing the effect World War One had on its local community.
Their findings have been preserved for generations to come. Working alongside a professional production company, youngsters created a short film.
Winning a Golden Apple Award has had a positive impact on the trust, which develops schemes to provide new opportunities or http://www.chungcuminihanoi.org improve facilities for residents living across the Solway Plain.
New volunteers joined the charity as a result of its heightened profile following the award win.
Trust manager Sandra Keaveney said: "Winning the Community Involvement Award at last year's Golden Apple Awards meant an enormous amount to the 'Footprints of our Fathers' project.
"After two years of hard work and dedication to be recognised with the award gave everyone involved a huge sense of pride for what they had achieved.
"The profile of our charity and the work we do in other areas was raised by the award and has led to us gaining volunteers."

Judges will award it to a school, college, university, training provider or other organisation which has successfully engaged its community and encouraged others to participate in learning.

July 28 is the closing date for entries.
Judges will consider nominations in August before shortlisted finalists are revealed in early September.
Finalists will be invited to the awards evening taking place at The Cube, at the University of Cumbria's Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle, on Friday, October 6.
